Philippe Moreillon

Doctor in internal medicine and infectious diseases from the University of Lausanne (UNIL, 1987) and PhD in microbiology from the Rockefeller University, New York (1993), Philippe Moreillon became Associate Professor of Medicine in 2000 and full Professor and Director at the Institute of Fundamental Microbiology of UNIL in 2002.

He successively held the positions of Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine and Vice-Rector of UNIL for Research and International relations until 2016. He is an unconditional supporter of interdisciplinary dialog and research between quantitative sciences and humanities.

He organised the World knowledge dialogue (, the academic discussions with his Holinesses the Dalai Lama and the 17th Karmapa, and co-organized the TEDxLausanne conferences. Emeritus since 2017, he is now active in academic and philanthropic institutions supporting sciences (e.g. the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences) and still active in microbial pathogenesis and the development of new antimicrobial strategies.
