I received my medical degree in Ireland, trained in Internal medicine and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. I moved to London and completed a 5 year fellowship in Clinical Microbiology at Imperial College London and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologist, while also completing an MSc in Infection and Epidemiology at the University of London.

I was awarded a 5 years Wellcome Trust fellowship in Infection and Immunity based at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Atlanta, GA, US and Stanford University, CA, US specializing in the Epidemiology of Tuberculosis at the CDC and Heart and Lung Transplantation infection at Stanford University.

I am currently working at the Mater Hospital Dublin as a Clinical Microbiologist and Clinical Specialist in Heart and Lung Transplant and Mechanical Assist Device infection and an Associate Professor of Medicine at University College Dublin, Ireland.
